Q: Registration seems expensive. Where does all the money go?
A: Instead of
Pay As You Go, the Shields Fleet 9 has historically worked on a Pay Once system
so that your registration fees cover everything for an entire season of Fleet 9
sponsored racing, awards, and most importantly, social events. This includes
over 50 races and 7 open bars! (But, does NOT include Sail Newport, Museum of
Yachting or CYC regattas)
Below is a list of the many expenses being covered this
year and the value you receive for your membership / fees.
• Year ending awards (banquet fees only cover food /
venue)
• Season by season awards
• Annual fee to ILYC for RC expenses
• IYAC Season Starting Party
• Weekend entrance fees for RC expenses
• Spring Season Party
• ILYC fees for misc. food / drinks expenses, weekends, RC, etc.
• Fall Season Party
• Fees to cover entrance in George Winslow Regatta
• Website expenses
• Mailings, printing, postage
• Summer Season Party
• Rules seminars (food, drinks, chairs, hand-outs, etc.)
• Catering, beer, wine, etc. (even with the savings of covered dish events)
(At $25, the crew membership is less than $4 pp for an
open bar at 7 different events!)
Regardless of the total cost, I am confident that, with the events and
total program we offer, you will agree that Fleet 9 is the best value for racing
sailors in all of Narragansett Bay.
